Next generation of innovators
We provide students a rigorous and engaging secondary school learning experience – one that is purpose-built for a future defined by innovation.
Purpose-built for rich STEM-focused learning, STEM Collegiate empowers students with authentic challenges and meaningful experiences that engage their minds and ignite their imaginations. Through a combination of direct instruction and meaningful hands-on learning, junior high students explore a multitude of science, technology, math, and engineering topics while also gaining awareness of the many career paths in STEM. This flexibility continues in high school, where students delve into STEM topics in greater depth and gain real-world experience through work-integrated learning opportunities, from internships to apprenticeships.
As a public charter school, innovation is a central part of our identity. Our STEM-focused programming further amplifies our commitment to maintaining an educational experience that delivers on its promise to prepare students for a technology-driven future. To support this commitment, our programs will be formally reviewed every three years to ensure they remain leading-edge and offer relevant and meaningful pathways into postsecondary and beyond.
Our relationship with NAIT ensures we remain leading edge on topics students may explore beyond high school. Our goal is that by the end of grade 12, students have enjoyed the opportunity to explore key technologies and are informed about exciting pathways beyond graduation.
STEM Collegiate’s Technology Advisory Committee will provide expert input to inform decisions on the school’s overall direction as well as domain-specific recommendations regarding course and curriculum development. In addition, this network will be instrumental in connecting students with real-world experiences and career pathways through speaker engagements, mentorships, externships, internships and more.
STEM Collegiate prepares all students for a dynamic, high-tech, information-rich, entrepreneurial, global economy that requires a highly skilled, knowledgeable, agile workforce. Gaining the skills, knowledge and competencies that are aligned with this dynamic reality will help open doors for students to build fulfilling lives and rewarding careers.
Embracing an applied, interdisciplinary approach to teaching and learning enables students to understand and appreciate the relevance of their work in relation to their own lives as well as the world around them. STEM Collegiate graduates will be able to think critically, solve novel problems and adapt insightfully to shifts and changes around them. Students will be prepared for life, regardless of the specific path they choose to follow.
Without exposure to authentic STEM learning experiences or a clear understanding of the many educational pathways and career options that exist, many students find it hard to envision their place in the world of work. The junior high and high school years are a critical time for students to have access to diverse experiential learning experiences that illuminate the connections between subject matter and practical applications in the wider world.
Our Network
Collaboration is a guiding principle that we foster in both our learning and our leadership. In addition to collaboration within our school community, we have constructed a wider network of support and expertise outside the school walls. Rich connections with industry and post-secondary institutions in a variety of STEM fields further enrich the student learning experience and provide an added dimension of real-world context. This wider community also offers our educators an extraordinary resource for both creative collaboration and advancing their own knowledge and skillsets.
STEM Collegiate has a unique partnership with NAIT to facilitate student exploration of postsecondary pathways and ensure that our programming provides ample connections to authentic STEM experiences.
